How does auto-trim decide what to keep?
It renders each page in your browser, finds the box that contains the actual content, and trims to it with a small safety padding. You can also switch to a manual amount.
Is anything deleted from the file?
Cropping sets the visible page box (the standard PDF crop), so viewers show only the kept area. It is lossless and reversible by re-setting the box.
